Greater part of all Roman units or their vexillationes(detachments)are once again forced to cross deep into barbarian territory to make mighty germanic tribes of Marcomanni and quadi accept peace.A peace these tribes had already repeatedly violated in previous years again and again.

The great Marcomannic wars(not just Marcomanni but also over 20 other germanic and non germanic tribes had joined in attacks against the Empire in period of ca.163-183)were reportedly in scale the biggest military conflict Imperial Rome ever fought in up to that point(...against foreign enemy)and contemporaries were comparing it with Punic wars.here in 172 nobody can knew for how long these wars will yet last and certainly not the ordinary Roman soldiers of whom ten of thousands had already died in previous years of this confusing conglomerate of more or less connected and coordinated barbarian agressions.
